Death of Preben Norgaard Christensen

The death has been announced of the highly respected Danish conductor and musician Preben Norgaard Christensen.

The European brass band community has been shocked to hear of the death of the highly respected player, conductor and musician Preben Nørgaard Christensen, who passed away in hospital following injuries sustained in a road accident two weeks ago. He was aged 55.

Thoughts

EBBA President and friend, Ulf Rosenberg told 4BR: “This is a huge loss and all our thoughts go to his wife Irene and their children. He will be greatly missed by all his friends in Danish and Norwegain banding, EBBA and the whole European brass band family.”

He added: “Preben was a great musician, a wonderful euphonium player, prize winning conductor, respected adjudicator, as well as being a renowned conductor of Thisted Kirkes Drenge-Mandskor, a world class choir in the church where he worked as a organ player.”

Success

During his banding career, Preben Nørgaard Christensen directed Nordvestjysk Brass Band to three Silkeblæs i Silkeborg entertainment titles in Denmark, as well as the Danish National title in 1994.

He also directed the Århus Brass Band to the National title in 2000 and at the European Brass Band Championship in 2001.

Adjudicator

He was an adjudicator at the European Championship in 2013 and Norwegian National Championship in 2015 and was a respected member of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra since 1986.
