New Brass in the Bandstand contest seeks eager contenders

Big prize money up for grabs on a first come first served basis at Shirebrook in July. Be quick.... as Grimey are on first...

Shirebrook Town Music Festival has announced that it has taken the decision to host a ‘Brass in the Bandstand’ Open Entertainment Contest instead of its proposed March & Hymn Tune event on Sunday 12th July.

New event

The new event will provide an exciting contest bonus following the concert appearance of Grimethorpe Colliery Band at Shirebrook Leisure Centre the previous evening (7.30pm on 11th July).

Prizes

With a first prize of £750, podium awards of £400, £300 and a ‘Most Entertaining Performance’ prize of £200, there is also plenty of cash up for grabs too!

It is envisaged the contest will start in Shirebrook Town Park at midday — and with no registration, and free entry open to contesting and non-contesting bands, it is being held to encourage bands to come and enjoy the musical experience of providing a 30 minute entertainment programme.

First come

Entries are on a first come, first served basis, with the entry limited to 8 competitors — so whoever gets in touch first will be assured of their place in the line-up.

Grimethorpe Concert:

Grimethorpe Colliery Band evening of ‘Brassed Off’ music on Saturday 11th July commencing at 7.30pm at Shirebrook Leisure Centre.

Tickets are available on sale now from Shirebrook Leisure Centre on 01623 748313 and Shirebrook Town Council on 01623 742475 at £12 and £10 concessions.

June 15 • After a fantastic result at the Wetherby Drovers Contest, The Harrogate Band are looking for a front row and a back row cornet player to complete the team. Rehearsals Weds 8pm with occasional Sundays at our own bandroom with great transport links
