4BR has been informed of the passing of Parc & Dare's long standing former secretary and trombonist, Phil Morgan.
Tribute
Speaking of his lifelong friend and colleague, former Bandmaster and Assistant Principal Cornet at Parc & Dare, Derek Holvey MBE told 4BR told about his banding legacy:
"Philip started playing with the Treorchy Youth Band in the 1950's before he moved to Birkenhead to work at the Cammell Laird Shipping Co.where he was solo trombone in the works band there.
Phil then returned to Treorchy in the 1960's to play with the ParC & Dare Band where he was Secretary of the band and a leading figure in the organisation for many years until his retirement the in 1990's. He will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him"
Roberts pays respects
Craig Roberts the former MD of Parc & Dare paid his respects to the former trombonist:
"Phil was a legendary figure in the band and remained a well known and respected man and musician in the band itself and the local community through to present day.
His achievements as a soloist and in an administrative capacity remain an inspiration, and his numerous recordings combined with all that Philip achieved for the band throughout his time there during its peak period in the 1970s/80s will stand as a lasting testament to one of the truly great Welsh bandsmen."
