Burbage celebrates a year of progress and success

The Burbage Silver Band has been celebrating a great year of success and progress with the handing put of some well deserved awards.

Awards

The Burbage Silver Band has been presenting its annual awards following a successful year of competition.

The ‘Players Player Award’ was won by flugel horn Sue Rea, with the ‘Chairpersons Award’ going to front row cornet player Lauren Turrell.

The ‘Musical Directors Award’ was presented to baritone player Beryl Matley (all pictured above).

Super year

Musical Director Chris Small told 4BR: “It's been a super year for all involved in the band.

When I took charge just under 12 months ago we were lacking in confidence and hadn't been to a contest for a number of years, but since then the progress and hard work has been fantastic.”

Highlight

He added: “The highlight was being paced as the highest placed Fourth Section band at the Milton Keynes contest in November and this year’s area result was the best for some 15 years.

Now, over the next 12 months we will continue to rebuild the band and push for prizes at numerous contests as well as fulfilling our busy concert schedule.”
