4BR has been informed that the City Theatre in Mechelen will host the 2016 Flemish Open Championship.
The popular bi-annual event, with its excellent organisation, has grown in stature since it first took place in 2005, with the 2014 contest attracting bands from Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Sixth event
The organisers told 4BR that they hope this sixth event, with its attractive prize packages and the opportunity to visit a wonderful part of the country, will also entice more bands from the UK to take part.
A spokesperson said: “The Flemish Open continues to grow and attract high quality bands in each of its sections.
We hope that many more bands from across Europe will include the event in their contesting calendar. Everyone is assured of a warm welcome in a wonderful city and an excellently run competition.”
Four sections
The contest in association with Brass Band Hombeek, will be run for the over the weekend of the 16th/17th April, with four competitive sections.
In each section the competitors will perform a short set piece, as part of their 30 minute programme. The titles and publishers of these set works will be communicated in due time, as will the list of adjudicators.

The 2014 Championship saw Brass Band Buizingen claim the top section title ahead of Noord-Limburgse with Festival Brass Band in third.
