The Mediterranean island of Cyprus, whose name derives from the Roman word for copper, is now favouring brass, following the formation of the newly formed Cyprus Brass Band.
First ever
Based at Episkopi near Limassol, it comprises players between the age 13 to over 80, and is believed to be the first ever traditional British-style community brass band to be based in the former British colony.
Great start
“It’s been a great start, and I am delighted with the enthusiasm of all the players,” Musical Director, Jamie McVicar, told 4BR.
“It’s an exciting new project, and I’m looking forward to helping build the band over the next few months.”
Already comprising over 20 members, there are still vacancies for new players.
