Adam Bokaris, David Gillson, Benjamin Goldscheider and Grant Jameson, will compete in the final of the 2015 BBC Radio Young Brass Award at the RNCM in Manchester tonight.
Quartet
The talented quartet were announced as finalists on a special programme broadcast on BBC Radio 2 last month after judges Jamie Prophet & Stephen Roberts had made their deliberations from a semi-final field of eight participants.
Three instrumentalists
The final will showcase three different instrumentalists: Benjamin Goldscheider plays french horn, whilst David Gillson, who is a cornet student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in addition to playing with the Fairey Band returns to the final for the second successive year.
Flower's, euphonium star, American, Grant Jameson is also having another crack at victory having been a finalist last year with Drighlington's Adam Bokaris, who is also a student at where the final will take place, is the fourth finalist.
Roberts, Sidwell & Wallace to judge
Making the all important decision on who will be crowned the 2015 winner will be John Wallace, Stephen Roberts and Steve Sidwell
Speaking on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday evening to Frank Renton, Ben Thomson, winner in 2006 & 2007 who has since gone on to be Principal Tuba of the Royal OPera House encouraghed any young player not to think twice about whether or not they should enter the competition:
"I never expected to win it as such, I would always recommend this competition, it offered me enormous opportunities for solo works, looks good on the cv and has put me in a good position for future work".
Grimethorpe, Frank and Ken
Accompanying all of the four finalists during the final will be Grimethorpe Colliery conducted by the popular Listen to the Band host, who will be joined on stage by the voice of BBC Radio 2's weekday morning show, Ken Bruce.
The audience in Manchester will also be able to hear Grimethorpe deliver a concert programme that will include the music of John Williams during the evening.
In the footsteps
The winner of the award, which is now in its eleventh year, will follow in the footsteps of last year's winner, Matilda Lloyd and Ben along with Stephen Sykes, Lewis Musson, Matthew White, Josiah Walters as well as it's first two winners, Katrina and Brendan Wheeler.
