The popular Wychavon Festival of Brass has announced that it has extended its contesting partnership agreement with the British Open Championship.

Spring Festival qualification

For the second successive year, a qualifying band from the Wychavon Festival of Brass will gain an automatic invitation to compete at the Spring Festival qualification series of contests in Blackpool.

In a few weeks time, the Vernon Building Society Band will take their place in the line-up for the Senior Trophy event after gaining the qualification spot at the 2014 Wychavon contest.

New date

Following an extensive consultation process the 2014 Wychavon Festival attracted a record 55 competing bands across all sections which took place at the excellent facilities offered by Evesham High School.

Delighted

A spokesperson told 4BR: “Following the success of the 2014 event we are delighted to be able to link once more with the British Open. We believe it gives the bands an extra competitive incentive.”

Best of Brass

Promotion for the 2015 event, which takes place on October 31st, starts this evening (Sat 21st March) with a ‘Best of Brass’ concert at the Norbury Theatre in Droitwich, with the Jaguar Land Rover Band in concert with special guest tuba virtuoso, Joseph Cook.

A spokesperson added: “The concert is presented with the kind support of Droitwich Town Council and is the second of what the Wychavon Festival of Brass hopes will be, an annual event, featuring top bands and brass players from across the region and beyond.”

Tickets for the concert are available from Ticketsource 01905 770154 and www.norburytheatre.co.uk.
