One of the musical highpoints of this weekend’s North of England Regional Championship is set to be the return of its traditional Saturday evening Gala Concert.
This year it will take place at the Gala Theatre, Durham on Saturday 14th March and will commence at 7.30pm after the day’s contesting has finished.
Tribute
It is hoped that it will become an annual event as a central part of the Championship weekend, and this year it promises to get off to a quite wonderful start with a tribute to the late, and much missed cornet star Bryan Tait.
Brain was one of the most respected cornet players of his generation, and was also a friend and colleague of so many in the North of England. It was huge loss to the banding movement when he passed away in July last year.
Proceeds
All proceeds from the event will be presented to Cancer Research, a charity very close to the Tait family, and will feature the combined forces of Brighouse & Rastrick, Reg Vardy and NASUWT Riverside Band, for who Bryan played with such distinction.
Each band will perform their own programme before coming together for some rousing massed band items guaranteed to raise the roof.
Soloists
The featured soloists also promise to provide amazing flair and finesse, with Geneva Instruments artists James Fountain (cornet) and Joseph Cook (tuba) providing brilliant solo spot items.
