The 80 young musicians of the Cornwall Youth Band will be spending four days over the Easter weekend rehearsing under the baton of guest conductor Philip Harper.
Premieres
All aged between 10 and 21, the course held at Truro High School for Girls marks the 60th anniversary of the formation of the band, and will also feature a brand new work by the Cory MD, entitled, ‘The Mermaid of Zennor’.
In addition they will also perform the premiere of ‘Illusions’, by 17 year old Daniel Hall, in their Gala Concert on Monday 6th April at St Michael’s Church in Newquay.
Anniversary
To mark the anniversary the band is also holding a reunion evening at the school on Saturday 4th April, when all former members and friends are invited to meet up and play in a rehearsal with the present ensemble.
In addition there will be an exhibition of memorabilia drawn for the Cornwall Youth Brass Band’s extensive archive of programmes, photographs and letters.

Open rehearsal
The band will also be repeating its successful Open Rehearsal and Audition afternoon on Saturday 4th April.
