Entries are now open for one of the most iconic and beautifully set brass band contests in the world — with news that the famous Hardraw Scar contest will once more take place on Sunday 13th September.
Amphitheatre
Organised by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association, the event takes place in the amphitheatre of the gorge below Hardraw Force waterfall in Upper Wensleydale.
The entertainment format attracts a great turnout of both bands and listeners, and this year the organisers have introduced some changes to the entry system to reflect the popularity of the contest and feedback from competitors.
Draw
All entries received by the 16th of March will be considered equally for a place at the contest and, if sections are oversubscribed, places will be allocated by a draw.
A spokesperson told 4RR: “The contest has become very popular over recent years as people have seen the beautiful dales landscape and settings on various television programmes.
The allocation of places at the contest was increasingly being determined by the efficiency of the local post office which led to some frustration from bands that just missed out. We hope that the changes make it easier for everyone.”
