The International Brass Band Summer School has announced that in addition to their usual fantastic attractions, the forthcoming 25th anniversary course will see guest conductor, Professor Peter Graham working with delegates.
Musical emphasis
Course Director, Professor Nicholas Childs (pictured together) told 4BR: “You can imagine that when you have a guest of the stature of Professor Graham, we would like to place an emphasis on his music.
We are delighted that this will give us all a first-hand opportunity to gain insight from the composer in rehearsals through to final performance.
‘Shine as the Light’ and ‘Renaissance’ are great finales for the Sovereign and Prestige Bands, and ‘Swedish Hymn’ (How Great Thou Art) will provide a wonderful, sonorous encore.”
Compositions
Dr Childs told 4BR that delegates will be encouraged to bring their own compositions for Peter to look at and discuss, and that he will also delve into many of his own compositions to help give invaluable tips and advice.

Quality and popularity
He told 4BR: “I’m really looking forward to my first IBBSS experience and to working with the delegates and the world class team of tutors.
The fact that so many overseas delegates make the trip is a clear recommendation as to the quality and popularity of the course — and I hope I can offer them something that will be of benefit to them as players and musicians.”
The 25th Anniversary Summer School takes place between the 2nd – 8th August.
