The organisers of the British Open Spring Festival have informed 4BR that the 2016 event will take place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday 14th May.

Death of John McCabe

Karyn and Martin Mortimer also told 4BR how sad they were to hear of the death of composer John McCabe.

“We were very sorry to hear of the sad news of the passing of composer, John McCabe CBE on Friday 13th February.

The British Open considers itself to have been privileged to have used three of his major works for brass band between 1992 and 2002, and that we were able to provide the opportunity for the presentation of the Iles Medal last September, although due to his illness, he wasn't able to receive the distinguished award in person."

They added: "Our thoughts and sympathies go to John's family and friends at this sad time."
