The Bolsover Brass Band Summer School for 2015 has announced a raft of exciting features and musical attractions under Course Leader Brett Baker.
Wilby work
This year the course, which runs from the 26th — 31st July, will feature a brand new work written by renowned composer Philip Wilby (above), who will also attend the course for an in-depth question & answer session to talk about his amazing repertoire for brass bands.
There will also be a special guest appearance by David Read MBE, who will give a fascinating insight into his career both in and outside the adjudication box, whilst there will also be a ‘new repertoire’ evening, a recital evening and a delegate’s recital showcase throughout the week.
Wonderful opportunity
Brett Baker told 4BR: “The course presents a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and players, engage in exciting, demanding music making and to learn from some of the best tutors around.”
Those tutors will include Brett himself, alongside the likes of Mark Wilkinson, Mark Bousie, David Thornton, Ray Payne, Brian Winter and Joseph Cook.
Demanding
Brett has been helped in picking the enjoyable but demanding repertoire by Joseph and David, all with the aim of stretching players in a fun way.
“That’s the key. The music is there to enjoy — but to also help improve the delegates as players. Here are so many attractions linked to the course such as visits to Bolsover Castle, that we think it’s the perfect balance between hard work and fun.”
