80 bands set for West of England Area

There is massive field of 80 competing bands taking to the stage of the West of England Regional Championships this year.

Filton Concert

There will be an 80 strong line-up of bands all wishing to claim their places at the London or Cheltenham National Finals taking to the stage at the Riviera Centre in Torquay for West of England Regional Championship on the weekend of 14th/15th March.

Revised format

The format is slightly revised this year with the Second, Fourth and Championship Section bands competing on the Saturday, with Third and First Sections on Sunday.

Chairman John Woods told 4BR: “We want to provide an opportunity for lower section bands, and in particular young players, with an opportunity to hear the Championship Section by rotation of the timetable this year.”

Return and welcome

John went on to express delight not only in the overall number of entries, but also the return of Shaftesbury Town Silver, a band from Dorset with deep banding heritage that has not competed for some years and Redruth Town who also make a welcome return.

There is also a warm welcome extended to Alder Valley Brass, who previously competed in the London & Southern Counties Area.
