The Welsh Open Entertainment Contest, to be held at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl, on February 21st, will see the presentation of two new trophies.
Horn and Percussion
The well known brass band supporter Jean Gardner from Taunton, who is a welcome visitor to numerous contest and concerts throughout the country, has donated the ‘Jean Gardner Trophy’ which will be presented to the ‘Best Horn Section’.

Life member
The second trophy is donated by the family of the late Yorweth Gowing.
A former member of the Mid Rhondda Band, Yori was also a highly respected Life Member of the South East Wales Brass Band Associaiton and was awarded the Roll of Honour by the Welsh Regional Council.
Yori, who died in 2014, will be remembered through the presentation of a trophy to the ‘Best Percussion Section’.
