Dyke set to sell out in Dronfield

You need to act fast if you want to get a ticket or play with the Double Champions in Derbyshire next month...

Prof Nicholas Childs

Brass band lovers and Pondasher fans across north east Derbyshire have ensured that Black Dyke’s forthcoming concert appearance at Dronfield Sports Centre on 21st March is set to be a sell out event.

There are now less than 50 tickets left for the ‘Double Champions’ eagerly anticipated appearance under Prof Nicholas Childs (above), with organisers delighted by the response.

Huge coup

North East Derbyshire District Council Leader, Councillor Graham Baxter MBE told 4BR: “This is a huge coup and we are delighted to have secured the services of the best band in the world today!

Brass banding is enjoying a welcome resurgence in our region and the response to the concert shows that.”

Free workshops

In a joint initiative, the Council and Black Dyke will also be providing a free workshop day for junior brass and percussion players up to the age of 25, of up to Grade 3 standard.

The players will work together during the day as well as perform a short concert at the end of the workshop event.

Players of Grade 4 and above will work under Prof Nicholas Childs as a band and break into sections under the expert direction of Richard Marshall, Jonny Bates, Gary Curtin and Brett Baker to improve their playing skills.

The players of Grade 4 and above will also be performing at the concert with Black Dyke on a massed band item.

Councillor Baxter added, “We want to give young musicians every chance to take part in the arts and this workshop is a great opportunity to improve their skills with Black Dyke.”
