The German National Champions, 3BA Concert Band has just enjoyed a highly productive visit by Black Dyke Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs.
Anniversary
The weekend of sectional and full rehearsals, which also included a live German radio broadcast in celebration of the band’s 10th anniversary, also saw Prof Childs conduct the inaugural gathering of the Bavarian Youth Band.
The musical spotlight with 3BA was placed on varied repertoire, including the Overture to ‘Henry the Fifth’ by Vaughan Williams and the demanding test piece, ‘From Ancient Times’ by Jan van der Roost, whilst the youth players certainly enjoyed working on Paul Lovatt Cooper's ‘When Thunder Calls’ and Edward Gregson's ‘Laudate Dominum’.
Wonderful
3BA Chairman Joerg Seggelke, told 4BR: “This weekend we celebrated the very first concert of the Bavarian Youth Brass Band — an exciting new partnership development from 3BA.
It was wonderful to work with Prof Childs as the band looks towards their appearance at the European Youth Championships.”
Exactly what he wants
He added: “The weekend has been extraordinary for us to see Alison and Nick Childs working both with 3BA and the youth band.
For me personally, it was very interesting to watch Nick conducting and how he can make the musicians and the ensemble sound exactly as he wants!”
It was a real pleasure to work with these musicians and the gala concert to a capacity audience on a live recording from National German Radio, was a great successProf Childs
