The Unite the Union Band, based in central Sheffield, has enjoyed a great start to the 2015 season — with the potential promise of more to come.
Test piece workshop
The band recently claimed the Butlins Mineworkers First Section title in Skegness, and recently followed this up by taking part in a highly successful joint National Association of Brass Band Conductors (NABBC) and Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (ABBA) test piece workshop initiative sponsored by Bolsover District Council at the Heritage High School in Clowne.
Adjudicator feedback
The band performed the Second, Third and Fourth Section set works that will be used at the forthcoming Area events, with each performance receiving critical analysis and feedback from the experienced conductors and adjudicators David Hirst, John Roberts and Sarah Groake-Booth.
Beneficial
A band spokesperson told 4BR: “It’s been a busy but enjoyable few weeks preparing the Butlins and Area test pieces for performance, but it has proven to be highly enjoyable and beneficial for the band.
The success at Skegness was a great way to start 2015, but the excellent Bolsover initiative really helped us too — and was something which everyone who attended gained huge benefit from.”
