Wilton looking Golden celebrations

The Wilton & District Band is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year — and want old players and supporters to help them enjoy the occasion.

Wilton

The Wilton & District Band (formerly Wilton & District Youth Band) is celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year, and is looking to get in touch with as many former players as possible to join them in their celebrations.

Front room formation

Formed by Dennis Chalk BEM in his living room, the band has trained and developed literally hundreds of players over the years, and has evolved into a successful contesting senior outfit whilst still maintaining a link to its roots through a flourishing training band.

In 2008, Dennis handed over the baton to Colin Herbert and the band has recreated some its junior contesting successes with recent back-to-back appearances at the National Finals and promotion to the Third Section for the first time in its history.

Major focus

A spokesperson told 4BR: “We will celebrate 50 years of playing with performances and events throughout the year, with the major focus being a concert and reunion party on the afternoon and evening of Saturday 4th July at the Michael Herbert Hall in Wilton.

If you have any sort of connection to us we would love you to come along and join us for what promises to be a great event.”
