Andy Urquhart, the star flugel horn player with the British Army’s professional Band of The King's Division, recently showed just how versatile he is, and just how brilliant the Ray Farr Signature Flugel Horn is, at the recent Butlins Mineworkers Championship in Skegness.

One hour later

Despite having only picked up the instrument from the Raw Brass Stand on Saturday afternoon, an hour later Andy then delivered an absolutely scorching rendition of ‘Children of Sanchez’ in the band’s evening concert.

Andy had visited the Raw Brass Stand at Butlins on a couple of occasions during the event and was so impressed with the flugel horn that he asked if he perform on it with the band.

Amazed

Chris Waters, Chief Designer of the Raw Brass Flugel, told 4BR: “What a player — and what an instrument. We were amazed that anyone, even a player of Andy's extremely high calibre would want to perform a solo after such a short practice period, but the flugel’s ease of blowing and spot-on intonation would have influenced his decision — and his performance showed that he had made the perfect choice.”
