Cathays Brass, based in Cardiff, has offered an open invitation to brass and percussion players to join them and Cardiff University Brass Band, for their ever first ‘Concert in a Day’ challenge on January 24th 2015.
Plan
The plan is to rehearse from 10.00am until 3.00pm with coffee and lunch breaks before reconvening to play the rehearsed repertoire to a keen audience at 7.30pm.
The rehearsal and concert will take place in the Sanctuary (top floor) of Cathays Methodist Church on Crwys Road in the city.
Repertoire
MDs Martin Humphries, Andy Wareham and Elan Higueras have put together an exciting programme of repertoire, but to add to the excitement will be keeping this under wraps.
However, the band will be joined by Matt Rowe, solo euphonium of the Tongwynlais Temperance Band as the featured guest soloist, whilst providing further musical entertainment on the day will be local Welsh-speaking choir Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal, conducted by Cardiff University Music student Steffan Hughes.
Free pizza
All this and Dominoes Pizzas, who have a shop conveniently opposite the church, have very kindly offered to provide free pizza for players at the rehearsal through lunchtime!!!
The concert will be free to all, with a retiring collection, from which all proceeds will go to The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, who support the new Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff. http://www.noahs-ark-appeal.org/
Time and place
Players should arrive at the church at 9.30am (though it will be open from 8.00am for anyone super keen) for a pre-rehearsal cuppa, biscuit and chat. The baton will go down with its first beat at 10.00am.

More information
A spokesperson told 4BR: “There is no absolute need to register but in the interests of having enough pizza (and chairs/stands), please email cathaysbrass@live.co.uk with your name, instrument and any dietary and/or mobility requirements (using ‘Concert in a Day’ as the subject). Dress for the concert will be all black (for players, not the audience).”
