As part of the Iwan Williams Scholarship, Deiniolen Junior Band recently enjoyed a masterclass with John Glyn Jones, MD of the Royal Oakley Band, and local peripatetic tutor Dylan Williams.
Techniques and skills
Over 25 junior members (ranging from 6 to 10 years of age) enjoyed themselves learning the necessary techniques and skills to become successful brass players.
Deiniolen Junior MD Llio Tomos told 4BR: “We were fortunate to have two highly experienced tutors and the children were full of enthusiasm.
We are looking forward to working with Dylan and John again soon, especially as the future is very bright with the Junior and Youth bands now boasting nearly 70 members.”
Impressed
Dylan Williams was certainly impressed: “It was a great couple of hours where the talented youngsters really listened to what I had to say, and I was very impressed with the development they made in such a short time.
Hopefully I will be able to visit again in the near future.”
Future secure
John Glyn Jones added: “What a great bunch of children and a fantastic setup. The future and continued success of this band is secure in the hands of their young dedicated tutors.”
