If you want to enjoy a fantastic week of music making in Nova Scotia with the added bonus of playing to 60,000 people then NABBSS is for you.

4BR has been informed that following on from its 2014 success, the North American Brass Band Summer School (NABBSS) will once again take place in 2015.

Support

Running from June 26th to July 8th, the NABBSS is hosted in the Canadian waterfront city of Halifax, Nova Scotia and is supported by the Buffet Group and Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Society.

The Summer School will see delegates receive a full week of tuition from the all star staff of Buffet Group soloists, as well as perform to a collective audience of over 60,000 people at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (RNSIT) — world’s largest annual indoor show.

Childs lead

The course is once again led by Dr. Robert Childs, assisted by the tutorial team of Cory principal cornet Tom Hutchinson, Rowan University's Dr Bryan Appleby-Wineberg (trumpet/cornet), Fountain City's Helen Harrelson (horn/baritone), Montreal Symphony Orchestra's James Box (trombone), University of Kansas' Scott Watson (tuba), All Souls Orchestra’s James Foster (percussion) — and international euphonium star David Childs.

NABBA President Dr. Stephen Allen will lead the academic staff alongside RNSIT Assistant Director Craig Roberts, and Administrative Assistant, Chelsea Comeau.

Intensive preparations

Under the overall direction of Dr Childs, delegates will enjoy intensive preparations for their performance in the RNSIT, as well as performance masterclasses, individual lessons, concert preparation and the opportunity to work on leading brass band repertoire, provided by Prima Vista Musikk.

This summer school has the exciting added bonus of offering its delegates the opportunity to share their music making with a huge and appreciative audienceDr Robert Childs

Bonus

Dr Robert Childs told 4BR: “This summer school has the exciting added bonus of offering its delegates the opportunity to share their music making with a huge and appreciative audience, as well as meeting and performing together with other musicians from across the world.

Our 2014 delegates had an incredible experience and I'm sure 2015 will be another fantastic week for all involved”.
