Reigning North of England Area and Doctor Martin Trust champion Reg Vardy Band has announced the appointment of Jacob Vilhelm Larsen (above) as their new Composer in Residence.
Two year link
The two year partnership will see the band perform an entertainment programme of Jacob’s compositions, as well as a major new work for choir and band, and a film about County Durham with brass band accompaniment.
The Danish composer recently completed a brace of new major works, ‘Ravenscroft Variations’ and ‘Pantheon — Symphonic Scenes for Brass & Percussion’ which will be premiered at the Norwegian National Championships in Bergen next month, whilst ‘The Saga of Tyrfing’, will be used as the set work at the National Youth Championships in Manchester in April.
Multi talented
The multi talented musician has gained critical acclaim for his innovative compositions in recent years, as well as gaining a fine reputation as a conductor with the likes of Stavanger and as a freelance performer.
In 2013 he worked with British Open champion Tredegar to produce the critically acclaimed CD ‘Travels’, which featured his compositions.
Innovative
Reg Vardy Band Manager Graeme Tindall told 4BR: “This is an exciting time for the band. With many new concert ventures in the pipeline, the inclusion of Jacob’s innovative music will certainly please the public and players alike.
