The newly crowned Scottish Open champion Whitburn has announced its annual award winners for 2014.
Awards
Assistant principal cornet, Lloyd Griffin was claimed the coveted ‘Players' Player of the Year’ prize as fellow band members recognised the excellent contribution made by the 20-year-old Royal Conservatoire of Scotland student to many performances last season.
Meanwhile, soprano player Scott Forrest, picked up the ‘Player of the Year’ accolade for a second time in recognition of excellence of his personal performances throughout a demanding contesting year that included both domestic as well as high profile contesting events such as the European Championships and Grand Shield.
Wonderful response
There was a wonderful response to the award of the ‘Bandsperson of the Year’ prize, which was shared between John and Elaine Fraser (pictured above with the other prize winners).
As well as supporting their tuba playing sons Robert and Graham for over a decade, John and Elaine have also played pivotal administrative roles.
As Band Secretary, John is regularly seen on the contesting circuit as Whitburn's representative, while Elaine works tirelessly behind the scenes as the band’s amazing problem solving mother figure — from replacing lost bow ties to last minute words of support!
