Presidential roles for Spennymoor stalwarts

Two of Spennymoor Town Band's finest stalwarts will now take on Presidential duties...

New presidents

Two of Spennymoor Town’s finest stalwarts, with a combined total of over 100 years magnificent dedication and service to the North of England band, have gained well deserved Presidential roles with the organisation.

Over 100 years

Bass trombonist George Lavery, who will be 90 years old this January, becomes President, having been involved with the band for well over 75 years.

Meanwhile, his great friend Hugh Stephenson, who through his fundraising efforts has secured the band's financial security for over 30 years, becomes Vice-President.

Fantastic bandsmen

Band spokesperson Mike Johnson told 4BR: “Following the death of our Life President Councillor Bill Waters last March, we thought it fitting and appropriate to acknowledge the service and contribution of these fantastic bandsmen.

George's dedication and commitment is second to none and Hugh's fundraising for the band is simply amazing."
