Community spirit rounds off year in Abertillery

There was a great valley's get-together in Abertillery with the local band leading the musical way.

Abertillery

Abertillery Town Band is celebrating after another successful concert involving several different music groups from the South Wales valley town.

The local St Michael’s Church played host to a Christmas concert involving the Abertillery senior and junior bands, Orpheus Choir, Orpheus Male Choir and Youth Drama & Music Society.

Community entertainment

Together, they entertained a packed audience with classic Christmas repertoire as well as several congregational carols.

A band spokesman told 4BR: “While we perform in several contests a year, the band are very proud of our status as a community band and always enjoy these regular concerts. The evening was a tremendous success.

It was particularly good to see the progress being made by our Junior Band that continues to flourish thanks to the hard work of tutors Lesley Taylor, Dean Evans and Tracy Phillips. Their dedication and commitment shone through the youngsters all evening.”

While we perform in several contests a year, the band are very proud of our status as a community band and always enjoy these regular concertsBand spokesperson

Thanks

The spokesman added: “We would like to say a special thank you to our guest conductor, Matt Rowe, who did a fantastic job all night, and to Steve Bard, who conducted both choirs, compered the concert and played Eb Bass with the band.”
