The BBC has announced the names of the eight talented young musicians who will perform in the semi-final of the Radio 2 Young Brass Award 2015.
The competition will be recorded at the BBC’s Philharmonic Studio in Salford on January 31st, where each player will perform up to 10 minutes of music of their own choice accompanied by Brighouse & Rastrick under the baton of Alan Morrison.
Four to go through
The judges are Jamie Prophet, principal trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Stephen Roberts, founder member of The Fine Arts Brass Ensemble. The duo will choose the four players to go through to the final, which will be broadcast live from the Royal Northern College of Music on March 27th.
Past winners of the competition include, Stephen Sykes, Katrina Marzella, Matthew White, Lewis Musson, Ross Knight, Ben Thompson, Josiah Walters, Brenden Wheeler and last year’s award winner Matilda Lloyd.
