Harrogate provide musical help for BAFTA Award

The Harrogate Band certainly played its part alongside the great Bernard Cribbens and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra is claiming a BAFTA.

Harrogate Bafta

The Harrogate Band has been celebrating their part in helping the hit CBeebies pre-school show, ‘Old Jack’s Boat’ (above) to win a prestigious Children’s Television BAFTA.

Huge hit

Starring the fantastic actor Bernard Cribbens, the show has become a huge hit with both children and parents and took the honours at the recent annual awards, which saw the likes of Peter Firmin, creator of the legendary ‘Bagpuss’ also honoured.

The Band recorded a specially arranged piece alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra by composer Paul Honey, which Bernard Cribbens sang to for the show’s Christmas special, which aired on BBC 1 on Christmas Day last year.

Big part

A thrilled composer made sure the band shared in the honour. “The band was a really big part of the programme,” he said. “Thank you for your wonderful playing at the end of the show.”

Loved it

A Harrogate spokesman told 4BR: “We absolutely loved making the recording and filming on set. The CBeebies crew were fantastic, the set design was amazing and we loved the fake snow!”
