There are fears from educationalists in Huddersfield that the future of music provision to young people and adults in the area could be under future threat following news that Kirklees Council is set to debate whether to cut over £300,000 of funding to local Kirklees Music School centres.

In a report in The Huddersfield Daily Examiner newspaper, it stated that the council may consider axing the funding it currently gives the centres based in its district.
One Head of Music is reports as saying; “The implications for the future are simple. If we stop getting young people involved in music, in years to come, the music stops.”
At present more than 7,000 students – both schoolchildren and adults – take lessons from 60 teachers.
