The Flowers Band has announced that the talented American euphonium star Grant Jameson is to join the Butlins Champion in time for their Skegness defence.
Welcome
Grant will take over the second euphonium seat from John Moss to partner David Childs, with the Welsh star telling 4BR that he is delighted to welcome the new addition to the band.
"I'm extremely sorry to see John leave. He's been a great support to me during the last year; not just a great bandsman, but a fine player too.
Having such an experienced player to play next to is always good, and John has been one of the very best.
The band has gained a wonderful replacement though. Grant is such a talent — and a player I’m really looking forward to working with.”
High profile move
It is the latest high profile move from the 20 year old American, following spells with Tredegar, Tongwynlais, and most recently Woodfalls.
He was also the first euphonium soloist to win the concerto competition at the Interlochen International Music Camp, and was a finalist in the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Musician of the Year.
Over the next few weeks he will also be beginning sessions for his first solo CD, which will be released late next summer.
Wonderful opportunities
He told 4BR: “I’ve had wonderful opportunities to learn from everyone in each of the bands I’ve been associated with and am deeply grateful for each of those experiences.
However, I couldn’t be happier to be joining Flowers and have the opportunity to contribute to this great band whilst learning from David Childs.”
The band has also announced that horn player John Jemmett joins from Lydbrook. John replaces Chris Hicks, who has taken a break from banding to concentrate on his studies at work.

Memorable year
A band spokesperson told 4BR: “We wish both John and Chris all the best for the future. These two signings will no doubt help us continue to build on the progress we made in 2014.”
The band will end their memorable year with a trip to Switzerland on the 19th December to perform in three concerts sponsored by Obrasso Music.
