Geneva Instruments euphonium artist Glenn Van Looy will join Brass Band Buizingen Musical Director Luc Vertommen this weekend for a gala concert performance in Zwolle in Holland, where the annual Buma Brass Awards 2014 will be announced.
International award
The event will see the ‘Dutch Brass Award’ presented to Danny Oosterman, the respected conductor of the National Youth Fanfare Band, whilst the prestigious ‘International Brass Award’, which has been won in the past few years by the likes of Philip Sparke, Martin Ellerby and Edward Gregson, will be presented to Luc Vertommen for his outstanding contribution to the development and research into repertoire for wind band, fanfare band and brass band.
The presentation ceremony will be held in Zwolle on Saturday evening during a concert given by the National Fanfare Band (conducted by Danny Oosterman) and the Fanfare Band Eendracht Wezep (conducted by Hendry Van Loo) featuring Glenn Van Looy as guest soloist.
Historic work
On the programme will be the remarkable 1845 work ‘Fantaisie’ by Charles-Alexandre Fessy, which has been reconstructed from the original manuscript by Luc Vertommen.
Meanwhile, the National Youth Fanfare Band will give a performance of play ‘Vita Aeterna Variations’ by Alexander Comitas.
Glenn van Looy will give the evening an extra Belgian touch by playing Jules Demersseman’s ‘Grande Fantasie Dramatique’, originally composed for an early Adolphe Sax trombone with six independent valves.

Remarkable
This remarkable piece of historic repertoire was rediscovered a couple of years ago by Luc Vertommen and subsequently recorded by Steven Mead.
It is also to be featured in a new recording featuring Glenn in the near future.
