The students of Durham University Brass Band will be looking to enjoy further expert tuition and guidance from Richard Evans and Leyland Band following the news of a joint masterclass and concert with the North West band.
Forge relationships
Band President, Jack Boyles, told 4BR: “The Brass in Concert Championships has offered us a great opportunity to forge relationships with some of the best bands in the country by bringing them to the North East.
Richard Evans in particular was a huge attraction for us, as his unique style and approach to brass banding is very close to our own.
Durham University Brass Band has high aspirations and we are eager to improve upon last year’s great success at UniBrass2014. So what better way to learn than from the best?”
Special day
Jack added: “Beyond this rather special day the band is looking forward to UniBrass2015 where we have a very exciting programme planned.”
Everyone is invited
The students have also extended the invitation to the masterclass to all local bands in their area — and beyond.
Lewis Wilkinson, DUBB Conductor and University Music Society President added: “It was important to open the masterclass up to people from the local community, because Durham has such a rich brass band heritage that we want to help ensure thrives.”
