The sound of music reaches Old Silkstone

A very particular sound of Bavarian music that is...

Bavarian Band

The Old Silkstone ‘Oom-pah’ Band recently held their 4th Annual Oktoberfest concert in Dodworth near Barnsley.

Great fun

It proved to be an evening of great fun, drinking and musical entertainment — although not always in that order, as the Frumptarn Guggen Band — in fill Bavarian style costumes — played everything from waltzes and polkas to The Kaiser Chiefs and a Eurovision Song Contest winning entry!

Proceedings were hosted by front man ‘Kaiser’ Mike Lomas and guest conductor ‘Hans Vondering’ Ian Walshaw, who is currently studying brass band conducting at the University of Huddersfield.

Irish fans

Fans and supporters came from all corners of Yorkshire — including a special contingent from Ireland.

Success

Spokesperson David O’Connor told 4BR: "What a great night, and our thanks go to Mike and Ian for their help tonight in making it such a success.

It was great to see so many familiar and new faces at this new venue and we’d like to thank those players and members who helped out on the evening."
