Sandbach set to be ablaze to the sound of solos

The fourth Foden's Solo, Duet & Quartet competition takes place this weekend

FodensAWard

Over a hundred competitors of all ages will be descending upon Sandbach Boys School, tomorrow, 1st November, for the fourth Foden's Solo, Duet & Quartet competition.

Seventeen

With the first notes blown at 10.00am, throughout the day, honours will be declared in seventeen different classes.

These range from the slow melody contests for various age groups along with the duet and quartet competitions.

Having been launched to great success last year, the un-tuned and tuned percussion sections will entertain the audience in the App room on Saturday afternoon.

Blue Riband

There will also be plenty of interest in the day's Blue Riband event, the Open Air-Varie category where the winner will receive a trip to the USA to link up with River City Brass and James Gourlay, courtesy of Besson Musical Instruments.

At various times during the day, results will be announced from the various sections with the judges giving summaries about what they've been listening too, with the prize winners (some of which are pictured above at the event in 2012) taking home various awards and trophies.

Van Looy, Williams

Foden's are delighted to announce that they have secured the services of leading names within banding to judge the various classes sat in view of the competitors.

Euphonium star, Glenn Van Looy (who first made an impression in the UK when he won the British Open Solo contest in 2008) will be on hand to judge a number of classes including who will get to be awarded the trip to the USA.

Joining Glenn will be Foden's very own, Glyn Williams with Chris Bastock and Anthony Galinier also faced with making the decisions throughout the day.

Support

Once again the entire day is supported by Besson Musical Instruments and AUDI of Macclesfield whilst it has been confirmed that the Kings Division and publisher, Creative Brass will be in attendance.

Foden's have also announced that a trophy in memory to the former cornet player, Bryan Tait will be presented.

Delight

Speaking ahead of what has become one of the highlights of the contesting year, band manager, Mark Wilkinson told 4BR:

'We are looking forward once again to a very enjoyable day where we are guaranteed to hear some high quality playing. Our thanks go in advance to our sponsors who've once again supported us and we look forward to welcoming old and new friends on Saturday'.

Mark concluded by reminding the competitors: 'The day is competitive but its also about enjoying yourselves'.

Our thanks go in advance to our sponsors who've once again supported us and we look forward to welcoming old and new friends on Saturday Mark Wilkinson
