Desford link to Davoren drive and style

Tom Davoren has been appointed the full time MD of Desford as Midlanders look ahead to exciting expansion in 2015...

Desford

Following the close of its 2014 contesting season and as their latest tour to Dubai and Thailand is underway, Desford Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Tom Davoren as its first full time Musical Director in over a decade.

Regular MD

The appointment, which will see Desford working with a regular MD for the first time since the era of Major Peter Parkes, coincides with a period of exciting expansion and renewed stability for the famous Leicestershire band.

2015 will see Desford extend the scope of their successful international university and concert hall tours beyond the Far East, as well as embark on substantial concert and recording projects in addition to their contesting schedule.

Drive and style

Band Chairman Peter Smith told 4BR: "We are delighted to welcome Tom as full time Musical Director. We are confident that his drive and style will continue to develop both the concert and contesting identity of the band."

He added: "In addition, new and exciting projects will be underpinned by our highly committed body of players, working to achieve excellence in Desford's unique way of banding."

Thrilled

Meanwhile, Tom added: "I'm thrilled to have been approached by Desford to fulfil the role of full time Musical Director.

Though contest performances are an exciting and important part of the band's history, I'm also looking forward to developing their presence in the concert hall and recording studio."
