The Ystradgynlais Band in South Wales is saying farewell to a stalwart player, as Angharad Evans and husband Rhys prepare to leave for a new life in New Zealand.
Loyal service
Local girl Angaharad, has given fourteen years of loyal service to the band that hails from just outside Swansea, serving the organisation in virtually every position — from conductor and principal cornet to contest secretary and band manager.
She has also been an inspirational leader of the Ystradgynlais training ensemble, which is now producing young players to secure the long term future of the band.
Farewell party
To commemorate Angharad's wonderful passion and commitment, the band arranged a surprise farewell party for her and Rhys. As well as band members, past and present, her family and friends also joined in the celebrations.
Angharad has Ystradgynlais engrained in her DNA, and it will be virtually impossible to replace her. We wish her and Rhys a very happy life together in New ZealandYstradgynlais Band
Key member
Band spokesperson Phil Morgan told 4BR: "Angharad has been a key member of the band for a number of years.
She led us to success at the National Eisteddfod in Newport when she was very young and has become a very popular member and an inspiration to our young players.
Angharad has Ystradgynlais engrained in her DNA, and it will be virtually impossible to replace her. We wish her and Rhys a very happy life together in New Zealand."
