4BR has been informed that contest organisers have confirmed that the popular ‘Land O’Burns — Brass in Concert’ event will be held in Troon on Saturday 20th June next year.
£3,000 first prize
Hosted at Troon Concert Hall, the contest is open to all Championship, First, Second and Third Section bands, with a prize fund of £6,700, which includes a £3,000 first prize to entice competitors from all corners of the UK.
A sense of free thinking musical innovation has become a central part of the contest’s appeal over recent years and for 2015, bands have been asked to include a ‘Disney’ work in their 20 minute programmes.
Hippos
Anything goes then — from Goff Richards to the dancing hippos from ‘Fantasia’ — and on any instrumentation too — Scottish bagpipes to Peruvian nose flutes.
Initial invitations will be sent out to bands, which have competed at the contest in recent years, in January 2015, but the organisers are particularly looking forward to being able to welcome bands from all parts of the UK.
Help
They told 4BR: "Troon has some great hotels, at various costs, and we can help bands who might be looking to have a great weekend or an overnight stay in Troon and South Ayrshire."
