Yamaha link with US Open

Contest organisers announce bands, adjudicators and major sponsor link for 2014 event.

Brass Bands International has announced that it has entered into a corporate partnership with Yamaha Corporation of America to sponsor the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships, which will take place at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles, Illinois, on November 8th.

BBI President Clark Niermeyer told 4BR: “Yamaha's international presence and its full range of professional and custom level brass and percussion instruments puts the company in a unique position to contribute to the growth of the brass band movement in North America."

He added: “Yamaha's partnership with our organisation will help assure that brass bands will continue to thrive in the United States.”

Enhance

The increasingly influential event has been held for the past 12 years, something which Roger Eaton, Director of Marketing, Band & Orchestral Division of Yamaha Corporation of America was keen to enhance with their support.

"Yamaha strongly believes in exposing evolving players to the benefits of brass performance, so it's a natural fit for us to partner with Brass Band International, as they promote the highest standards of performance and entertainment,"

Meanwhile, the list of competing bands and the adjudication panel has also been released.

Adjudication panel

The adjudication panel will consist of Dr. Paul Bauer, who holds a D.M. in trombone performance from Northwestern University and was the highly respected Director of the School of Music at Northern Illinois University.

He will be joined by Dr. Eric Yates, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Alabama School of Music.

Boarshurst Silver Band

February 17 • Boarshurst Silver Band, NW Championship Section, requires a BBb player, flugel, and front row cornet player. Under MD Jamie Prophet, the band have an ambitious and varied calendar for 2025, including NW Area, Spring Festival and Whit Friday.


Mid Rhondda Band

February 14 • Mid Rhondda Band are looking for the following players : Front Row Cornet, Solo Trombone, Eb Bass, Kit and Tuned Percussionists. The band will be competing in the 3rd Section at the Welsh Area. Contest & concert engagements in the diary for 2025


Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band

February 13 • Reading Band (current joint 1st place in the L&SC 4th section grading tables) needs a TENOR HORN for the regional contest in Stevenage on 15th March! Rehearsals in Woodley (RG5) on Thursday evenings with our MD Stephen Bucknell.
