Mixed emotions for Poulton-le-Fylde

A new MD and a departing cornet player as Poulton look to the future.

Poulton

The Poulton-le-Fylde Band has announced the appointment of new MD Dave Collins.

Due to increasing work commitments, which often saw MD John Wood travelling from Central Europe to conduct band rehearsals, John and the band committee decided a more suitable way forward would be to appoint an interim conductor.

Sorry

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Band members were sorry to hear of John’s situation, as alongside him we achieved many successful contest results to place us firmly in the First Section."

Well known

The new MD is well known composer and musician, Dave Collins, with the band now looking forward to a busy Christmas period under his direction.

The spokesperson added: "We are confident that he is the right person to lead the band forward in John’s absence."

Thanks

The band also took the opportunity to record their thanks to assistant principal cornet Hannah Parkinson as she departs to university.

Hannah progressed from the Poulton-le-Fylde Youth Band and also played with the National Youth Band of Great Britain.
