The Roberts Bakery Band under the direction of MD Simon Stonehouse has been awarded the prize as ‘most entertaining band’ of the 2014 Ring o' Bells brass band concert series in Marple.
Number 1 draw
Giving the first concert of the popular series in June, the band performed a more traditional first half which included Walter Hargreaves' classic transcription of ‘Russlan and Ludmilla’, before changing their seating for a second half featuring everything from Iron Maiden to ‘Mr Sandman’, complete with singing and dancing.
Jetting off
Roberts will defend their title with the first concert of the 2015 season, but in the meantime they will soon jet off to perform once again at the European Blasmusikfestival in Bad Schlema, Germany — an event which sees them perform to audiences in excess of 6000 people.
