The Lofthouse 2000 Band will be providing the world premiere of a new work by leading brass band composer Alan Fernie later this month.
Request
Entitled, ‘Pro Patria Mori’ the work, which references Elgar’s ‘Nimrod’ from his ‘Enigma Variations’ has been specially composed at the request of the band to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.
The title refers to the last line of the Wilfred Owen poem ‘Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori’ — it is sweet and right to die for your country.
