Euphonium star David Thornton will be performing in a special lunchtime recital a Salford University on Friday 17th October, where he will premiere new works from award winning composers Lucy Pankhurst and Paul McGhee.
Original voices
Two of the most original compositional voices to write for the brass band medium, Paul is currently putting the finishing touches to ‘Sonata for Euphonium & Piano’, whilst Lucy has penned ‘Resonances for Euphonium & Electronic Delay Effects’.
Inventive
"I always enjoy seeking out new avenues of repertoire for the euphonium," He told 4BR. "Lucy and Paul are wonderfully inventive, original voices, so to be able to premiere new works by them is a real honour."
In addition David will feature a work from long time associate and friend Dr Peter Meechan with 'Parallel Realities', as well as the intriguingly entitled 'Let There Be Funk' by American D. Edward Davis.

Busy time
The concert performance comes at a busy time for the performer, whose recent CD release ‘Sempre Libera’ has gained widespread critical acclaim, whilst a new release, which will include works from the likes of Lucy Pankhurst, Simon Dobson, Kit Turnbull, Paul McGhee and Peter Meechan is soon to hit the shelves.
