Brighouse attract new generation to Wes Riding

A great free workshop day has seen a Brighouse & Rastrick open its doors to a new generation of potential stars...

Youth Day at Brighosue

Brighouse & Rastrick recently held a free youth workshop for young brass players at their famous West Ridings headquarters, which attracted 24 young players between the ages of 9 and 18.

Tuition

The in depth event included an extensive amount of tuition provided by B&R’s principal players in addition to full band sessions conducted by Dean Redfern, conductor of the Brighouse & Rastrick Youth Band.

The tutors also joined together to play a 30 minute concert for the course participants and their parents.

Great time

Band Manager and Brighouse & Rastrick principal cornet Stuart Lingard, told 4BR: "Everyone had a great time. Our principal players provided masterclasses for the different instrumental groups and the full ensemble came together twice during the day to practice four pieces which were new to them.

It all concluded with a great mini concert to showcase the amazing progress they had made during the day."

We intend to repeat this event on a regular basis and everyone is welcome, including players from other youth bands and pupils from the many schools within the areaStuart Lingard

Repeat

Stuart added: "We intend to repeat this event on a regular basis and everyone is welcome, including players from other youth bands and pupils from the many schools within the area.

Saturday’s event attracted players from West and North Yorkshire as well as Lancashire."
