There seems to be no end to the awards being won by the Tullis Russell Mills Band organisation at present, with news that following their nomination, the band has been celebrating winning a prestigious Mary Leishman Foundation Award for Services to the Arts & Music.
Achievements
The award was made by Jamie Leishman, the son of founder, at the recent Kingdom FM Local hero Awards ceremony, where the audience was told of their remarkable achievements over the past year or more.
These included winning a historic double at the Scottish Championship, competing at the European Championships in Perth, taking part in many local community events and concerts as well as raising funds for other worthwhile causes.
Try and help
A band spokesperson told 4BR: "As an organisation we go about our business in a quiet and professional way and try to help as many other organisations along the way as we can.
We do this without looking for credit, so it’s nice when someone out there thinks you are worthy of a nomination for such a prestigious award."

Historic year
They added: "The band was very surprised to be told they had been nominated, but then to go on and win the award adds greater significance to what has already been a historic year."
Both bands now have little time to sit and reflect on the award as they head to the National Finals at Cheltenham later this month.
