Here comes the bride....

A neat twist of coincidence has seen a happy couple enjoy a brass band reception...

Lewis Merthyr

The Lewis Merthyr Band has given a newly married couple a musical present to remember on their wedding day after a happy coincidence in Penarth on the weekend.

Wedding reception

The band under MD Gareth Pritchard had been booked to provide a concert by the local authority on the Esplanade pier, which in the warm sunshine attracted a large and appreciative audience; although unbeknown to them some of the most distinguished local Penarth families were enjoying a wedding reception at the upmarket Pavilion behind them.

And just as the happy couple emerged from the reception for photographs for the local press, the band happened to be on hand with the right celebratory music on cue!

The couple come from two of Penarth’s best known local families, so the bride and groom were delighted and we have already been fielding requests for more wedding jobsMD, Gareth Pritchard

Boxing fans

Now Lewis Merthyr has a host of new fans — including a ring full of former top Welsh amateur boxers — and the possibility of a few new bookings too.

"It’s always nice to see the positive effect a brass band can have on a memorable occasion," Gareth told 4BR.

"The couple come from two of Penarth’s best known local families, so the bride and groom were delighted and we have already been fielding requests for more wedding jobs!"
