Star subs give Grimethorpe Open boost

Two star signings will come off the Grimethorpe bench to give Yorkshire challengers an Open boost in Birmingham

Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the signing of two star performers in their bid to recapture the British Open title at Symphony Hall in Birmingham on September 6th.

Former Black Dyke baritone player and current Rainford conductor Gareth Brindle has stepped in to cover for Nick Young, whose wife is expecting a baby, whilst former Cory player Joanne Childs comes in on flugel horn.

None better

MD Dr Robert Childs told 4BR: "Circumstances meant that we required two ‘super-subs’ for the contest — and they don’t come any better than Gareth and Joanne.

Everyone at Grimethorpe wishes Nick and his wife well on their forthcoming arrival, so it’s great to be able to get someone in with so much top flight experience as Gareth."

Move

He added: "With David Moore making a magnanimous move to cover a long term vacancy on cornet for the contest it’s also great to be able to call on Joanne’s experience too. I don’t think we could have asked for two better star subs!"
