Carlton Main Frickley Colliery has announced that the talented young composer Ben Hollings has taken on the role of Composer & Arranger in Residence with the British Open and National Championship challengers.
Big name
MD Leigh Baker told 4BR: "Ben is making a big name for himself in both brass and wind band spheres and this is an exciting development for us both. We have already performed Ben's concert opener ‘Momentum’ and look forward to exploring new and interesting repertoire together."
It is also hoped that the partnership will further strengthen the Yorkshire band’s relationship with the University of Huddersfield through Professional Conductor, Phillip McCann.
Enhanced
Ben is a product of the successful Glossopdale Community College and also attended the Junior RNCM where he studied French horn and piano. After working closely with Phillip McCann he recently graduated from Huddersfield University's BMus course, majoring in composition.
Meanwhile, Ben has recently enhanced his already varied repertoire by teaming up with film composer Benson Taylor to work on a film that is due for release in November.
Imaginative
Leigh Baker added: "Ben's imaginative and descriptive works have been performed to critical acclaim by the Huddersfield University Brass Band and formed part of the Unibrass title winning performance in 2014.
Everyone at Carlton Main is excited by the potential of this musical relationship and we are keen to begin new projects with Ben in the near future."
