4BR has been informed of the death of former Wingates conductor and CWS (Manchester) player, Stanley Whiteman.

Player

Stanley was heavily involved in the brass band world for a number of years, having connections with many bands in the Manchester area. He played with the CWS (Manchester) Band and was part of the Virtuosi Brass Band of Great Britain which toured Canada in 1972.

Conductor

He also enjoyed success as conductor, and led Mossley at the 1966 British Open and Wingates at the 1969 event on ‘Spectrum’.

He leaves a wife, Audrey, children and grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later this week.
